STL (formerly Sheffield Trainers Limited) are the largest independent work based learning provider in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire and are growing rapidly in Nottinghamshire. Established in 1984, we now deliver Apprenticeship and NVQ programmes in six occupational areas: Retail; Hospitality; Business Administration; Hairdressing; Care of the Elderly and our most recent addition – Sports and Recreation.

Our philosophy has always been to train and develop people in the world of work. Originally based at Bailey Street in Sheffield, we became ‘Sheffield Trainers Ltd’ in 1990. As we grew to cover areas other than Sheffield we abbreviated the name to STL.

We have six training centres across 3 regions (Sheffield, Doncaster, Chesterfield, Rotherham, Derby and Nottingham) and a Head Office in Attercliffe, Sheffield. The company is an Investor in People and our processes are quality assured to ISO 9001 – 2000.

All training companies involved in the delivery of government funded training programmes are now subject to an external inspection which is carried out by the Adult Learning Inspectorate (similar to OFSTED inspections in Schools). This inspection helps to assess the quality of training delivered. In 2003, STL had the best grades in both South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. We are placed in the top 5% of quality training organisations nationally.
